Condemning Recent Acts of Violence
Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, Canada (HSS) strongly condemns the recent attacks on and at Hindu temples in Brampton (Ontario) and Surrey (B.C.) by Khalistani extremists. The attacks are a direct affront to the principles of peace and mutual respect, threatening a multi-decade long harmony established within various communities in a multi-cultural society. The disgraceful act of targeting places of worship undermines our shared commitment of mutual acceptance and inclusivity, something we all share and trust as Canadians.
HSS is even more concerned about law enforcement brutality in Surrey, B.C. Police officers used excessive force against three temple attending devotees, including a minor. The unacceptable misuse of power raises questions on the sense and sensibility of law authorities, and more importantly, generates a sense of public distrust in law enforcement. Such incidents compromise the principles of fairness and trust which we strive to uphold in our communities.
HSS calls on responsible authorities to thoroughly investigate incidents in both Brampton and Surrey to ensure justice and protection to Hindu (and other) temples, cultural establishments and communities targeted in general by string of attacks and vandalism. We urge all Canadian officials to prioritize and foster respect and confidence in all communities, and discard and expose individuals spreading hate and violence.
HSS Canada stands in solidarity with those affected, organizations and individuals, by recent and earlier acts of hate and violence, and calls on Canadians to reject threats, divisiveness and intolerance in all forms. Our collective voice and actions promoting harmony will ensure camaraderie, prosperity and peace in Canada, a country we immensely love.
